Departing in Astana, traversing the Kazakh steppe, a type of plains, with arid soil and sparse vegetation on a three hour flight to Almaty. The video starts on the descend phase from where the backside of the Himalayan mountain range can been seen from far away, on the other side of the border in Tajikistan. The STAR arrival was chosen at random and my calculations did not add up, forcing me to a descend rate surpassing 2000feet/minute, with a tight right turn towards Almaty and away from, the 7000 meter tall mountains. I reckon, approaching this airport at night is a challenge in itself. The layout of the airport is unique and also there were NOTAMS in effect, creating confusion with my avionics input, forcing me to disconnect the autopilot and safely land in poor visibility, which lead to an unwanted textbook mistake
