This is Astana, a city completely built from the ground up in the middle of the frozen steppe in Kazakhstan. In winter it gets down to negative 30 degrees here. But even when it isn’t winter, It’s a unique place. Like, very very unique. But it also has a dark history that few people outside of Kazakhstan know anything about. And yet we’d heard that people from around Kazakhstan were choosing to move here of all places to find new opportunities. This once tiny town in the middle of nowhere has rapidly expanded to a city of over 1.5 million people. We'll be spending the next two days diving into all sides of this one-of-a-kind city.
