China has been quietly building one of the most extensive military and strategic infrastructures ever documented in the Himalayas, and the India Today Open Source Intelligence Team has mapped it all. Using satellite imagery, official Chinese government documents and geolocated footage, Open Intel has verified at least ninety new Chinese projects in the region since 2020, including twenty-seven air assets, seventeen railway assets, thirty-three tunnels and thirteen water infrastructure projects, spanning from occupied Aksai Chin to the area surrounding the holy Mansarovar Lake.
The ecological cost of this buildout is staggering. Seventy-five per cent of the Tibetan Plateau is already moderately to severely ecologically vulnerable. Nearly nine hundred and thirty thousand Tibetans have been forcibly relocated since 2000. China is turning Tibet into a hydropower superbase, with projects like the one hundred and sixty billion U.S. dollar Medog mega-dam on the Brahmaputra leading the charge. Open Intel warned about Tibet's ecological meltdown at COP30 ten months before the Nepal floods hit.
But accurate reporting on China is being undermined by a dangerous wave of misinformation. Open Intel debunks fake satellite images, hallucinated AI maps and geographically impossible blame being placed on Chinese dams for the Nepal flood crisis.
The Nepal flood crisis was immediately blamed upon the Chinese, but the satellite evidence suggests a different picture, the construction on the Chinese side was almost 900 kilometers away from the Nepal's glacial site.
Key Highlights:
90 verified new Chinese infrastructure projects mapped in Himalayas since 2020
Chinese military site of 250-plus hectares documented in occupied Aksai Chin just 65km from LAC
75 per cent of Tibetan Plateau classified as ecologically vulnerable
Nearly 930,000 Tibetans forcibly relocated between 2000 and 2025
Medog mega-dam on Brahmaputra estimated to cost over 160 billion U.S. dollars
Open Intel debunks fake satellite images and AI-hallucinated maps used by Indian media outlets
Tibet ecological meltdown flagged by Open Intel at COP30 ten months before Nepal floods
Evidence-based ground truth reporting highlighted as critical defence against information apocalypse
