Hiking in March the Prokhodnoe Gorge (Almarasan gorge), near Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Snow, like a fluffy carpet, wraps the slopes of mountains, making them snow-white and majestic. The air is filled with the fresh smell of pine needles.

I walk along the mountain path, leaving deep footprints in the untouched snow. The loose snow squeaks under my feet, and in the distance the river Prokhodnaya gurgles in its stone bed.

Descending lower and lower, I enter the realm of ice and snow. Snow-covered fir trees, like sentries, stand on both sides of the river.

The sound of the rushing stream fills the gorge. Approaching the water, I watch the power of the stream. Nature is mesmerizing.
