When I decided to hitchhike my way through Kazakhstan, I had two reasons. One: I thought it would be a fun challenge and an awesome way to step outside my comfort zone. Two: I wanted to show everyone that kindness still exists in our world.
As I was leaving the big city to embark on this adventure, I received so many doubts from the locals and I questioned myself whether this was a good idea. But I knew I was ready to face any challenges and that everything will work out in the end.
Once I met Ruslan, it was like a big “I told you so” from the Universe to all the doubters. Not only did we have a great time getting to know each other, sharing stories of our lives, I also witnessed joy in his eyes as he showed me the beauty of the place he calls home.
When he offered to go out of his way to take me to my destination, I felt such an immense gratitude that it made me want to spread the same kindness to strangers when given the opportunity.
In the end, it became a transaction not of money but of love, joy and compassion, and we both got to share a wonderful memory together and now have a great story to tell.
