It’s always a pleasure to re-visit Karaganda! We already explored the area surrounding Anet-Baba Mosque in this video: https://youtu.be/RD67OjhN4Ws?si=IE_ghv7v4uv6uAj1, but the mosque is not the only landmark in this location. Curiously, there’s also a catholic cathedral nearby. So, today we are going to walk from Anet-Baba Mosque to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Fatima.
The description for this walk is going to be uncharacteristically short. That’s because I don’t usually give too many comments where religion is involved, and we have 2 religious sites here. And a long walk between them. So, not much to talk about. Still, a very enjoyable walk in its own right.
0:00 - We are standing at one of the entrances to Ethnopark named after the 10th anniversary of Independence of Kazakhstan. Anet-Baba Mosque can be seen in the distance. Let’s get closer.
0:34 - Behind us is Sary-Arka street (aka Prikanalnaya).
0:45 - Notice Suyunshi monument. We checked it during the previous walk as well.
1:52 - A statue.
3:01 - We reached the mosque. Let’s head North-East from here across the park.
8:46 - Exiting the park. Stroitelei Ave is right in front of us. Also the towers of the cathedral can be seen far away already. We are going to turn right here.
12:20 - Corner of Stroitelei Ave and Shakhterov Ave. Crossing the road, heading North.
13:29 - Monument dedicated to builders. And Builders Park stretches behind it, but we won’t go there this time.
15:15 - Every time I look at this, I want to buy a tractor.
15:40 - Have you noticed a flock of birds?
16:43 - The cathedral is visible again. We are close!
17:23 - And some power tools are audible. Sorry for that.
18:59 - Crossing the last road that separates us from the cathedral.
20:16 - Before entering the gates I decided to walk around a little, trying to get a money shot, but failed miserably.
21:38 - Entering cathedral grounds. Inside the cathedral itself there was a service being conducted, so I didn’t enter. Didn’t want to intrude. But there are many curious things on the grounds as well: a number of statues, a grotto. I have so many questions! But luckily I also have a rule about not commenting on religious things here. I am leaving you to notice all the interesting things by yourself. And yes, during this walk I failed to avoid capturing my own reflection again.
And now, my walk has ended...
The walk took place on 25 August 2024.
