For many, Almaty is almost synonymous with Kazakhstan. Earlier known as Alma Ata meaning father of apples in Kazakh, Almaty was Kazakhstan's capital until 1997. Almaty is a modern city, and its urban skyline, streets, parks, and public spaces resemble many western cities. Many waste their trip to Almaty looking for cheap thrills, but in reality, the city has lots to offer across history, monuments and untouched nature. The drives to some of its beautiful lakes and canyons, especially the Kolsay Lake, Issyk Lake and Charyn Canyon are breathtaking. Check out this video for a glimpse of this magnificent city.
