Russian President Vladimir Putin will discuss energy ties on a visit to Kazakhstan this week. The countries already closely cooperate in the energy field, with more than 80% of Kazakhstan's oil being exported to foreign markets through Russia. The Kazakhstan government has however distanced itself from Moscow's war in Ukraine. Meanwhile, in Central Asia, Kyrgyzstan's President Zhaparov visited German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin on Tuesday. What are the geopolitical and economic implications of these visits?
