Stepping off the beaten path is where the best travel stories happen.

During my explorations in Almaty, Kazakhstan ????????, I stumbled upon a tiny, neighborhood barbershop run by a team of three local barbers.

Walking in completely unannounced, I hopped into the chair for a traditional shave. That’s when I met Baka, a talented barber originally from Tajikistan. Mid-shave, I decided to change direction. Instead of going for a clean-shaven face, I asked Baka to give me a classic "handsome man Tajikistan beard" trim and style!
The craftsmanship was top-notch, the conversation was fantastic, and the entire experience cost me only about $6 USD.

Moments like this capture the true heart of travel. Almaty is an extraordinarily beautiful city, and the people of Kazakhstan are some of the most hospitable, warm, and welcoming hosts you could ever hope to meet. Local barbershops and neighborhood spots are truly the best window into a culture's soul
